Why We Exist: The Frances B. North Legacy
The North Legacy Project, is a heartfelt tribute to Frances B. North (1919–2017), a Seattle civic leader whose tireless work united communities and transformed barriers into opportunities. Frances’s passion for justice, education, and service inspires our mission to empower underserved families—especially in Antioch, California and beyond.
Frances understood what too many families learn the hard way: the system doesn't automatically work for everyone. You have to make it work. That's exactly what North Legacy Project does for special needs families today.

Bill North:
Founder
Born in 1948 in Seattle, William “Bill” North was raised by Frances B. North, a civic giant whose commitment to equity and justice shaped his worldview. Her legacy wasn’t just talked about, it was lived.
Bill went on to blaze his own trail in Major League Baseball, playing center field for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants. He was known for his speed, leading the American League in stolen bases twice and winning two World Series with the A’s in the mid-70s.
But Bill’s heart ❤️has always been in the community.
Today, as a founding member of North Legacy Project, he is using his mom’s legacy to advocate for families navigating special education, systemic challenges, and legal barriers. His life journey, from stadium lights to school meetings, is proof that legacy is not just inherited... It’s activated.
